Check Services

CHECK SERVICES – We partner with one of the top three best Check service companies in the country and have negotiated a very competitve package for our Vision Source/Smile Source Clients.  Because bad (nsf) checks are not prevalent in the Healthcare Industry, we don’t heavily promote this type of service as they are two of the lowest risk industries for bad checks.  People tend to take care of their Healthcare providers.    We are not opposed to check services, but  98% of the time, the annualized dollar amount of bad checks just doesn’t justify the cost to have the service.

Here is your measuring stick – even with one of the most competitive programs in the nation, our program will cost you $480.00 per year if you never ran a single check.  There is a $15.00 p/mth account fee, and a $25.00 p/mth minimum in processing fees for a $40.00 monthly total.  That amount times twelve equals $480 annually.  Very few of our Doctor clients ever exceed $480.00 in bad checks per year.  If you do, then having the service may be justified for you.

Another reason not many of our Doctors take check services is that unlike most reps, we explain that getting an approval on a check does not indicate that the check writer has sufficient funds in their account to cover that check.   Many companies/reps sell this service as a “real time” approval/allocation of funds from the check writer’s account.   That is not accurate.  The approval simply means that they have not been reported to the National Bad Check Register as a bad check writer.  If the check bounces (nsf) and you have subscribed to Guarantee services, then the check company will still fund you the monies and do the collection of the monies from the check writer….but there’s a catch!  If you have missed any piece of the required information to validate the check writer, (drivers license, address, etc…) that check can still get charged back to you.  It happens!   If you simply subscribe to check verification, it’s a roll of the dice.  If you are not thinking about subscribing to full check services, then it really doesn’t make sense…..and that is after you’ve done the math above.

Now that it sounds like I have talked you out of Check Services, let me say this before I outline the package…..I am not opposed to check services, I just want my clients to make informed decisions about this service.

SERVICE PACKAGE – Includes, Check Verification, Guarantee, and ACH Conversion with the use of a loaner check imager.  The loaner use of the imager saves you at least $400.00.  Some companies charge double that price and more!   There is a $15.00 per month account fee, $0.20c per item, with the Guarantee rate at 1.19%   All this combined adds up to a minumum of $40.00 per month in fees.  If you run LOTS of checks, your fees could well exceed $40.00 per month.  I just like to set that $480.00 benchmark to help with your decision making information.  (Click here for application)

CONNECTIVITY – The Check Imager can be connected via a dial terminal, but we recommend the PC/Web based version where it’s connected with a USB Cable to the pc.
